Northern White Cedar is the best natural wood insulator growing in the Western Hemisphere. It is interesting, and indeed appropriate that the "warmest" wood should grow in the coldest climate. Each inch of Northern White Cedar has a resistance, or R-value of 1.4. This quality keeps out the cold of winter and heat of summer.

  • 2x4 KD spruce interior studs
  • 5/8" CDX plywood or 3/4" matched pine for roof sheathing
  • 2x12 KD rafters in most models
  • Heavyweight asphalt shingles
  • Fir or glue laminated beams, where applicable
  • Materials for roof venting and drip edge for roof perimeter
  • Cedar exterior trim
  • Pressure treated sills where shown
  • Sill insulation
  • Steel lally posts, if applicable
  • KD girder stock, where applicable

  • 5/8" CDX plywood or pine subfloor
  • Rough stair materials, where applicable
  • Windows are Andersen Permashield Terratone with High Performance low-e glass and screens. Some models feature skylights or roof windows, as well.
  • Standard exterior doors are ThermaTru FiberClassic insulated fiberglass (stainable) with low-e glass.
  • Homes with porches or decks include pressure-treated framing, Cedar decking, pine ceiling, Cedar log porch posts, Cedar rails and balusters.
  • All hardware for construction of the log home package is included.
