Energy Efficiency is a key to our overall cedar log home design. Northern White Cedar is the best natural wood insulator growing in the Western Hemisphere. It is interesting, and indeed appropriate that the "warmest" wood should grow in the coldest climate. Each inch of Northern White Cedar has a resistance, or R-value of 1.4. This quality, along with our wall construction methods, keeps out the cold of winter and heat of summer. Insulated headers for doors and windows along with the new Zip System wall sheathing system give each Maine Cedar Log Home a clear advantage in energy saving construction techniques.

The best materials available are used in our homes, with three packages to choose from.
Our homes may be ordered as “pre-fab” or “materials” packages. Both versions include all the same high quality materials. With the materials package, all products must be measured, cut and assembled at the building site. The pre-fabricated package is delivered to the site with the outside walls already constructed as panels. When delivered, the logs have been applied to studded walls, windows and doors have been installed, and the wall panels are ready to be erected or stood up and spiked together. With the pre-fab package, the walls on many models (including gables) can be set up in a day, and the whole shell can be weather-tight within a week. Maine Cedar Log Homes packages include all the materials necessary to build a structurally complete weather-tight shell (except masonry, and common nails- due to difference in builder equipment). The interior materials are structurally complete (including all framing and sub-floors), but otherwise unfinished, awaiting your selection of plumbing, electrical, insulation, and other interior finish materials. Plans, specifications and materials can change without notice and may require modification to comply with local building codes.
